Score 82/100 · Drink 1990-2000, Robert Parker, Jan 1998
In contrast to the 1979, the 1978 is a much more tannic, reserved wine for long-term cellaring. The wine has dark ruby color and a spicy, ripe, yet generally tight and closed bouquet. While certainly a good wine, it seems to be missing length and complexity. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000. Last tasted, 4/90.
