The 2014 Raymond-Lafon still has that Germanic-leaning bouquet, more petrolly than the 2015, maybe just missing a bit of botrytis compared to the 2016. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a viscous opening and moderate complexity, harmonious with beeswax, orange rind and light stem ginger notes on the finish. Fine.

The 2014 Raymond Lafon has a slight Germanic bouquet, a little diesel fuel combining with the dried honey aromas. The palate is balanced with a fresh entry. There are impressive botrytis levels in evidence here although I hope for more complexity and weight to come through on the finish. Give this Sauternes another two or three years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

RS 124 g/l. Tasted blind. Edgy with some greenness and great freshness. Still chewy. But lots to give. (JR)
