Good medium-deep red. A note of reduction dissipated to reveal complex, Burgundian aromas of wild strawberry, cherry, smoked meat, dried rose, mace, cinnamon stick and white pepper. Very sweet and deep, with harmonious acidity and a mellow note of cappuccino. At once dense and bright, and not especially oaky. Slow-mounting finish features suave tannins. A lovely California pinot with strong personality. According to the label, this is from the oldest pinot noir vineyard in Carneros, which yielded just 1.5 tons per acre in 2000.
