Score 92/100 · Drink 2023-2038, Neal Martin, Dec 2020

The 2019 Santenay Clos Rousseau 1er Cru is more open and expressive than the Beaurepaire with vivid redcurrant and raspberry fruit laced with rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with good structure, slightly chalky in terms of texture like the Beaurepaire but with a little more precision on the finish. Great potential.

The 2018 Santenay Clos Rousseau 1er Cru includes 20% whole bunch and is matured in François Frères barrels. It has a focused raspberry and briar bouquet, more backward and primal than Moreau’s other cuvées. The palate is sappy on the entry with plenty of black fruit and a light marine influence toward the saline finish. Excellent.
