(aged in 10% new oak, all large barrels): Bright lemon-yellow color. Tight, citrussy nose isn't giving up much today. Juicy and tightly wound, in a distinctly backward style. Very fresh but backward village wine conveys a mineral firmness and a slightly saline quality. (Incidentally, the estate's Clos du Château Bourgogne Blanc is lean, juicy and penetrating, boasting lovely balance and persistence for its category; I scored it a solid 88 points.)

The 2014 Chassagne Montrachet Villages was lacking a bit of complexity on the nose when I tasted it. The palate is better with good depth, notes of lime cordial and citrus fruit with a harmonious, straightforward finish that suggests early drinking pleasure.
Light, fresh nose – not much intensity but very precise. Neat and crisp. Well chiselled and chalky. (JR)
(mostly aging in 600-liter barrels, including 10% new): Palish yellow. Soft aromas of pear, lemon and flowers. Then juicy and on the lean side, with the wine's acidity coming across as a bit shrill. I wanted more texture and give.
About the producer
Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
