Score 90/100 · Drink 2005-2010, Robert Parker, Aug 2005

The 2003 Pinot Noir Sea Smoke Vineyard boasts a floral, sweet black cherry, and earthy-scented perfume along with ripe, opulent, fleshy flavors that are neither over the top nor in danger of losing definition. The finish is spicy, rich, and well-defined. This is a beautifully made, floral-tinged, black fruit-dominated Pinot that cuts a broad swath across the palate. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Tel. Good ruby-red. The brightest on the nose of this set of 2003 pinots, showing black cherry, pungent minerality and brown spices. Silky on entry, then rich and layered in the middle, with dark cherry, berry, mineral and spice flavors given definition by lively acidity. The longest and brightest of these pinot releases, finishing with nobler tannins. This would have merited an outstanding rating but for some oaky dryness that emerged as the wine opened in the glass.
