Tasting notes
The 2011 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard gives up a big meaty and masculine profile, with surprising ripeness to the fruit. Black cherry, decaying leaves, currant, leather and even hints of licorice all show here and it has a rich, layered mid-palate and sweet tannin. It, too, should drink nicely for a minimum of 5-6 years. Drink now-2019. This was a classy, character filled lineup of wines by the folks at Foxen. Tel. (805) 937-4251; www.foxenvineyard.com

The 2011 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard is one of the biggest and most powerful wines in the range. The blackest of cherries, plums, earthiness, tobacco all take shape in this dark, brooding Pinot. The style is decidedly masculine, but at the same time less finessed than the very best wines here.
