There are just 110 cases of the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Mary's Block, which all comes from the estate vineyard in St. Helena. It offers a riper, more Bordeaux Blanc-like feel in its lemon curd, white flowers, crushed rocks, and spice. Deep, rich, balanced, and layered, it has vibrant acidity and a rocking finish. It's a beautiful wine.

The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Mary's Block is a 100% estate wine and is vinified and aged in oak to differentiate it from the straight Sauvignon Blanc. Baked apple, pear, white flowers, smoke and a kiss of new French oak inform this dense, beautifully resonant Sauvignon from Spottswoode.

The first vintage of this wine was 2016. It's made from 100% estate fruit and only sold on the mailing list. The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Mary's Block is fermented 90% in oak (80% new) with the rest fermented in stainless steel. It opens with fragrant orange blossoms, lemongrass and lime leaves notes with a core of white peach, grapefruit and cedar. Medium-bodied with a satiny texture and wonderful freshness, the palate sings of peaches and citrus notes, with a lively line and long mineral-laced finish. This should cellar gracefully.

About the producer

Spottswoode
Spottswoode

Spottswoode is one of those rare Napa estates whose reputation rests less on volume or spectacle than on persistent exactitude. Set on the western edge of St Helena, where the Mayacamas rise and afternoon breezes temper the valley’s warmth, the vineyard occupies a favoured pocket of the appellation.
