Tasting notes
The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago is a very linear and tight red wine with a great sense of focus and direct intensity. The wine is not labeled Riserva, but it is aged for one additional year compared to a Brunello annata. Bright berry and dried fruit aromas are followed by very etched mineral notes with dusty graphite and dried spice. I tasted this wine after the bottle had been opened for a day and those distinctive aromas of crushed granite appeared even more evident. This is a lovely wine that underlines the austere and powerful side of this classic vintage.

Tasted blind. Mature-looking ruby with bricky rim. Malty and with hints of gingerbread on the nose and lightly charred. Not hugely expressive on the palate in spite of the lively acidity. Progressed but not over-the-top yet, but I do not see this going anywhere either. (WS)
