Score 86/100 · Drink 2025-2028, Eric Guido, Vinous, Dec 2022

Flinty crushed stone, wildflowers and strawberries can all be found as the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Zebras Selection opens in the glass. It’s soothingly soft, with a pure mix of red berries and savory spices. The 2018 finishes more structured and severe than anticipated, clamping down with grippy tannins that lack a follow-through of fruit concentration to balance.

Maturing ruby with orange tinges. Subdued but concentrated and with savoury-sweet fruit hints. Supple and round but lacks complexity and depth of fruit, even if this has good length. (WS)
