Score 91/100 · Drink 2026-2033, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, May 2026

Notes of licorice, dark wild berries and violet preface the 2023 Cornas, a medium- to full-bodied, enveloping and seamless wine with good depth at the core, concluding with a long, mineral finish. This is a fine introduction to Johann Michel’s style, defined by its velvety texture and sense of gourmandise.

Vivid purple-hued, the 2023 Cornas offers notes of black cherries, plums, graphite, liquid violet, and crushed stone. It's medium-bodied, has a concentrated, focused mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It's a beautiful, ultra-classic, mineral-laced Cornas that needs 3-5 years to hit prime time and will cruise over the following 10-15 years. Drink 2029-2044.

After initial reduction, the 2023 Cornas gradually imparts ripe black fruits alongside spicy traits. Medium-bodied, moderately concentrated and fleshy, the 2023 is a well-built Cornas, ending with a structured finish.
