Still to be bottled at the beginning of 2024, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Sorenson is a selection of the vineyard's oldest vines, planted in 1983, 1984 and 1989. One of the blocks is barrel fermented, with the overall proportion of new oak running about 35%. Some minty notes accent cherries on the nose, backed by cedar and cinnamon, while the medium to full-bodied palate is creamy-supple but concentrated, with a long, velvety finish.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Sorenson Vineyard emerges from the oldest vines on the property, planted between the early 1980s and early 1990s, and is named after Bill Sorenson, the first winemaker at Burgess. Dark and brooding in character, the 2021 packs a serious punch. Savory and earthy, the 2021 is full of mountain character. The 2021 is dark, somber and full of mystery. I can't wait to taste it from bottle.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Sorenson Vineyard emerges from the oldest vines at Burgess, planted between the early 1980s and early 1990s by original winemaker Bill Sorenson. Decidedly old-school in inspiration, it offers up an exotic mix of dark fruit, herbs, bay leaf, coffee and dried flowers, all framed by muscular tannins. There's a touch of polish, but mostly, this is a wine that triggers deep memories of another era in Napa Valley's history. I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. The 2021 has shut down post-bottling, but I don't expect that to be an issue over the long term.

Wine has been made at Burgess since the 1870s, but was established in its current guise when Tom Burgess purchased the property in 1972. The property has 24 hectares across two vineyards on Howell Mountain. As of 2020, it is owned by Gaylon Lawrence Jr of Heitz, Stony Hill and more.
