Tasting notes
The 1998 Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge exhibits a grand cru Burgundy-like perfume of plum liqueur intermixed with soy, underbrush, and roasted meats in a more foresty, autumnal style than the 1999, 2000, and 2001. There is sweet black cherry fruit as well as a pronounced earthy, animal-like character to this wine. It is compelling Pinot Noir, but not up to the quality of the 1999, 2000, and 2001. Full red. Slightly high-toned aromas of plum, nuts and dried fruits; like the Three Sisters, this could use more freshness. Then sweet, lush and silky in the mouth, with more weight and ripeness than the Three Sisters. Showed a fresh raspberry flavor as it opened in the glass, but this pinot, too, could use a bit more verve. Best on the very long finish, which features fine, even tannins.
