The Federico Graziani (with his name also seen as Fede Graziani on the front label) 2019 Etna Rosso di Mezzo is an exceptional expression from the mighty Sicilian volcano. What I like most here is the quality of the fruit that comes through with freshness, clarity and focus. Red cherry, blackcurrant, white pepper and spice meld together on the bouquet. The finish is delicate, silky and softly perfumed. Graziani's vineyard parcels are tucked away between lava flows in different locations. The blend is 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio (with some fruit coming from 100-year-old vines), and 3,300 bottles were made.

Transparent ruby. Richer than the regular Etna Rosso on the nose. A bit more brutal but is it more fun? Keep … and hope! (JR)
