Score 18/20 · Drink 1999-2029, Jancis Robinson MW, Dec 2025

Full bottle 1,375 g. Aged 12–18 months in barriques. Made in pre-history as far as Chapoutier is concerned! According to Parker’s book on the Rhône, yield was just 14 hl/ha. Just 600 cases made. He gave it 93 (La Bernardine got 88) and suggested a drinking window of 1998–2022.  Transparent ruby with a rust-coloured, then pale rim. Definitely old on the nose! Hint of decay but it’s all coming together. Sweet liquorice flavours. Really quite delicate! Much more fruit than I had expected. Long and rich and still very much alive and well. Exciting! (JR)

Score 94/100 · Drink 2008-2020, Robert Parker, Jan 2003

A classic for the vintage, the tight, muscular, tannic, saturated ruby/purple-colored 1989 requires another 3-5 years of cellaring. The bouquet offers up scents of Provencal herbs, pepper, garrigue, licorice, and gobs of kirsch liqueur. Full-bodied and powerful as well as extremely tannic, it will be drinkable between 2008-2020+.
