All Grenache from York Mountain, the 2022 Grenache York Mountain displays a plum/ruby hue and offers up a great nose of red and black berries, lavender, violets, pepper, and red plums. It's medium to full-bodied and remarkably pure on the palate, with an elegant, layered mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. Aged 18 months in neutral French oak barrels and puncheons, this beauty will keep for a decade in cold cellars. Drink 2025-2035. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini continues to keep Epoch Estate at the top of the hierarchy in Paso Robles. She makes a bevy of wines, all of which are from their estate Paderewski, Catapult, and York Mountain vineyards. While the 2022s clearly rank with the top wines of the vintage, I think her 2023s might be even better. Readers can’t go wrong with any of these, and Jordan’s wines always shine for their purity, vibrancy, and balance while staying true to Paso Robles with ripe, sexy levels of fruit.

Immediately compelling on the nose, the 2022 York Mountain Grenache leads with aromas of wet clay, dark berries, crushed stones and dark chocolate. The palate is impressively elegant and refined, with a vibrancy and precision that is simply captivating. The finish marries a succulent, refreshing quality to an otherwise chalky, powerful core surrounding lush fruit flavors. This is drinking beautifully, even in its infancy, and I look forward to following it over the next decade and then some.

Crushed blueberries and cherries mingle with savory herbs and lavender pastille as the 2022 Grenache blossoms in the glass. It is soothingly round, with ripe wild berry fruit and tactile mineral tones that cascade throughout. Juicy acidity maintains fantastic energy and verve, while the 2022 finishes with an air of baking spice and violet inner florals. Remarkably pretty and accessible. Nearly impossible to put down.
