The 2022 Alicante Bouschet Pagani Ranch is a very pretty, aromatic wine. Strong floral accents lend an exotic flair. Bright red/purplish-toned fruit, blood orange, rose petal and lavender are all beautifully delineated. More than anything else, the 2022 impresses with its freshness. There is less body than in most years, but that is not a bad thing at all. What a delicious wine this is.

The 2022 Alicante Bouschet Pagani Ranch includes a little Zinfandel in the blend to avoid the tendency of Alicante to be one-noted and rustic. This 2022 pours a youthful purple color with a touch of pink and is expressive of black and blue fruit. On opening, it’s joyful in the glass, with notes of ripe mixed black and blue berries, violets, and expressive rosemary and wild herbs. Full-bodied, it has lovely lift and freshness of acidity to balance its ripe texture, with plush tannins and a long, even finish. This very appealing wine is going g to have a wide drinking window over the next 6-8 years.
