Tasting notes
The flagship Cabernet, boasting a vivid ruby/purple hue, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a terrific nose of crème de cassis, violets, sweet flowers, spicy oak, and cigar box. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 30 months in new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with remarkable purity, ultra-fine tannins, and flawless balance. This is another brilliant wine from this estate. Drink 2025-2045. I don’t think anyone is doing Bordeaux varieties in Paso Robles better than the Daou brothers, particularly with the top tier Patrimony label. Recently sold to Treasury Wine Estate in 2023, it remains to be seen how the transition will be handled, yet I’m certainly hopeful – and confident – that quality here will remain incredibly high.

The 2022 Patrimony is a barrel sample of Cabernet Sauvignon, maturing for 30 months in 100% new French oak. It takes some time in the glass to reveal red and black currants, blueberry, licorice, soy, cocoa powder and desert herbs. The full-bodied palate is plush, supple and inviting with mineral-driven fruit and a juicy, floral finish. It is due to be bottled in March of 2025.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Patrimony is dark and powerful, with an expressive bouquet of black cherries, cassis, baking spice, rose petals and cedar spice box. Undeniable elegance is on display as it washes across the palate with textures of pure silk, showing oak-infused red and black fruits elevated by a core of mocha and a framework of sweet tannins. Harmonious and long, it leaves rum-soaked currants and nuances of spiced orange, while a twang of residual acidity maintains unexpected energy and verve.
