The yellow-hued 2022 Chardonnay Frei Road Vineyard has a bit of flinty lift along with notes of vanilla, lime oils, crushed stones, and an appealing hint petrol. A distinctive white with a unique character, it has Riesling-like intensity, with dry extract and supple ripeness, as well as incredible focus and power. Drink 2025-2040. Founded by winemaker Matt Courtney and his longtime friend David Wherritt, Ferren focuses on single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the far Sonoma Coast. They had initially set out to be a Pinot Noir house, but they now produce an equal amount of Chardonnay, and the wines don’t disappoint. The whites are textural, balanced, and highly expressive across the board.
The 2022 Chardonnay Frei Road Vineyard boasts exceptional textural density and palate presence. Apricot, ripe pear, tangerine peel, chamomile and a kiss of French oak all build in the glass, filling out the layers effortlessly. Readers will find an expansive, generous Chardonnay that hits all the right notes.
