Tasting notes
The 2023 Chardonnay Trout Gulch bristles with citrus, oyster shell, chalk, white pepper and mint. In this cold, late-ripening year, the Trout Gulch (a late site) is especially nervy and tightly wound. Brisk saline notes support the long, racy finish. This is a very pretty and expressive Chardonnay, but it needs air to be at its most expressive.

Tasted as a barrel sample, the bright yellow 2023 Chardonnay Trout Gulch is from the southern Santa Cruz Mountains and is hyper-focused, with more laser-like acidity. It has a windswept feel, with notes of bright citrus, fresh dewy earth, lime leaf, and green pear, and it has a coiled texture, mouthwatering, focused intensity, and a long-lasting finish. The fruit for this wine was picked the third week of October. The team from Ceritas are continuing to push the bar steadily higher, never resting on their laurels. The 2023 range from them is not to be missed.
