The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a more introverted nose and therefore demands more coaxing from the glass. Briary, mulberry and subtle fig-like aromas unfurl in the glass, quite cerebral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fresh and vibrant with a sorbet-like freshness onto the finish. Veering towards a more modern style of winemaking, nevertheless it is very well crafted and it should age with style. Very promising. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

(these old vines lost 50% of their fruit to the frost): Healthy dark red. Black cherry and medicinal herbs on the nose, energized by mint and mineral nuances. Densely packed but youthfully imploded, displaying lovely subtle, penetrating sweetness and excellent clarity to its dark fruit flavors. Spreads out nicely to saturate the palate on the long, stimulating back end. This wine boasts a terrific tight kernel of fruit; I would not be surprised if it shut down fairly soon after the bottling.
