Cigliuti's 2010 Barbaresco Serraboella is a wine for the exceedingly patient. Big, rich and ample on the palate, the 2010 pulses with dark red and black fruit, smoke, tobacco, savory herbs, menthol, licorice and incense. The firm tannins are going to need time to soften, but once they do, the 2010 will be majestic. Even today, it is super-impressive.

The 2010 Barbaresco Serraboella is born from a southwest-facing exposure and 30 to 55-year-old vines planted in limestone soils. Indeed, the wine’s mineral composition shines bright with subtle tones of brimstone and flint. Those dry sensations make for a perfect segue to vibrant cherry and wild berry. Pretty dustings of spice and crushed clove blend into the greater fabric of this well structured Barbaresco. Drink: 2016-2026. The 2010 Barbaresco Serraboella is darker, rounder and creamier than the Vie Erte, but it, too, has plenty of underlying structure. Plum, black cherry, incense and sweet tobacco notes flesh out in a medium-bodied, utterly gracious Barbaresco loaded with class and personality. The tannins are formidable, though, so patience is required. The Serraboella spent 26 months in oak, 70% cask and 30% tonneau.

Even better is the 2010 Barbaresco Serraboella. Deep, rich and impressive, the Serraboella fills out its broad-shouldered frame quite nicely with resonant layers of fruit. The 2010 is shaping up quite beautifully at this early stage. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the next year. The Serraboella was aged in French oak casks, but no barrique, a change with this vintage.
