Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Good deep bright red. Very spicy but rather shy aromas of blackberry, raspberry, currant, licorice, mace and nutmeg. Penetrating and spicy in the mouth; cool black fruit flavors are downright refreshing for the vintage. Then opens beautifully on the back half, showing a silky texture, captivating sappy sweetness, and superb persistence. This is the best value among the Comte Georges de Vogüé '97s, and a knockout for the vintage.
