Tasting notes
The only red wine bottled by Heitz this vintage, the 2020 Lot C-91 (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is dominated by crunchy red berries. Based solely on early picks, it does seem clean of smoke taint to this taster. This medium- to full-bodied wine may be lacking a bit of concentration, but it is a pleasant, less-extracted Cabernet, with a tart, silky-textured finish.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot C-91 is the only red wine Heitz made in this vintage. Sweet floral, spice and sweet red cherry notes inform this fresh, vibrant, easygoing Cabernet. The 2020 is a bit lean, but it also has no hard edges or awkward notes aside from the bright acids of a wine picked very early. All of this fruit is from Trailside, picked on August 23 and 25—unheard of for Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot C-91 is the only wine Heitz made in 2020. Sweet red cherry, pipe tobacco, cedar, dried flowers and spice lend notable aromatic presence. This mid-weight, nuanced Cabernet Sauvignon is super-expressive and inviting. All the elements are so well put together. There's a bit of grip on the finish, but that is typical of so many wines in this vintage.
