Limpid ruby-red. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, cola, incense and vanilla, complemented by a sexy five-spice powder accent and a hint of smokiness. Stains the palate with sweet raspberry liqueur, spicecake, floral pastille and vanilla flavors that become more energetic as the wine stretches out. Shows a compelling blend of power and elegance, revealing no rough edges and delivering an impressively long, floral-tinged finish. (JR)

The 2008 Pinot Noir Pas de Nom is a blend of the best barrels in the cellar. In 2008 they were from Bella Vida, Zena’s Crown, Shea, and Dussin vineyards. Dark ruby in color with an already complex and expressive bouquet of pain grille, Asian spices, underbrush, floral notes, black cherry, and black raspberry, on the palate it is dense, packed, and rich, bordering on opulent. Powerful (at the expense of a bit of elegance), exceptionally long, and seamless, it has the structure, balance, and precision for a long life. It is a candidate to see its 20th birthday in fine form. Lynn Penner-Ash took full advantage of the outstanding Pinot Noir fruit provided by the 2008 vintage. www.pennerash.com

Bright medium red. Sexy aromas of raspberry, potpourri, Asian spices and anise. Silky, pure and elegant, with a pliant texture to its complex red berry, floral and spicecake flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and lingering sweetness. Showing really well today. Wright owns this vineyard, which was planted in 2000 to the Pommard clone and Dijon clones 777 and 115. He says that it's usually the most floral of his wines because of the sedimentary soils. (JR)
