I had previously reviewed this wine but am happy to return to the bottle especially now, because it can be seen in the context of this mini vertical. The Falesco Famiglia Cotarella 2015 Montiano is definitely evolved and a bit flatter, aromatically speaking, compared to the more vibrant 2016 vintage and the richer 2017 vintage that I tasted at the same time. This wine shows dried fruit and pressed cherry with plenty of smoke, tar and toasted spice at the back. This wine is evolving quickly, so you're better off opening your bottle in the near term.

Montiano is and always has been the Cotarella family pièce de résistance. The 2015 Montiano (100% Merlot from Lazio) is a deep and richly textured wine with thick layers of dark fruit and sweet spice. The wine ages in Nevers and Tronçais oak barriques for 12 months. The 2015 vintage was warm, and that extra heat adds to the power and the softness of the wine. Some 55,000 bottles were produced.
