Very fresh nose of red fruit and violets, together with just a whiff of smoke. Impressive depth and structure for this underrated appellation. The lively acidity interlocks neatly with the healthy tannins. Plenty of energy and some real power at the long, moderately dry finish. Good aging potential. From vines planted during the 1950s. Drink or hold.

The 2020 Auxey-Duresses Les Hoz Rouge was matured in used barrels using 40% whole bunch. It has a disarmingly lovely bouquet with pure red fruit, redcurrant and cranberry mixed with orange rind and a touch of tobacco. The palate is well balanced and fresh, the stem judiciously used and adding just the right amount of spiciness. Very well-defined and focused on the finish, what a delicious Auxey-Duresses this is from Pacquet.
