Score 88/100 · Drink 2018-2021, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

Unfortunately the 2010 Gran Clos was also extremely oaky. It is a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena with a little Cabernet Sauvignon from selected slope vineyards in the village of Bellmunt del Priorat. It fermented at controlled temperature with Priorat dry yeasts and matured in new French oak barrels for 19 months. The nose is mostly about oak and there are shy hints of very ripe fruit underneath. The palate is similarly dominated by drying oak tannins that felt very harsh. It's a shame, because it feels like there was nice fruit to start with and with some time emerge aromas of garrigue and Mediterranean herbs. Maybe with more time? For fans of oaky, ripe reds. There are 3,200 bottles produced.
