Score 93/100 · Drink 2003-2010, Pierre Rovani, Apr 2003

The superb, light to medium-bodied 2001 Chassagne-Montrachet Vide Bourse offers beguiling stone and apple aromatics. Fleshy, deep, satin-textured, and medium-bodied, it inundates the palate with resiny minerals. An intense, gorgeously detailed wine with an ethereal, penetrating quality, it also possesses an exceptionally long, expressive finish. Projected maturity: now-2010. (from 80-year-old vines that Morey described as "in full vigor") Rather pale color. Smoky oak and minerals on the rather restrained but complex nose. Dense, supple and sweet in the mouth, with perfumed, lively flavors of lime and flowers. Rich and ripe for this wine, less austere than in most vintages. Finishes with a dusty, minerally quality and excellent persistence. Here the wine alcohol is perfectly buffered by its extract and minerality.
