Tasting notes
The lavishly endowed 1999 Ode to Picasso (a 368-case blend of 32% Syrah, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 12% Cabernet Franc, aged in 30% new French oak, and named after a deceased pet cat) offers a blue/purple color as well as a full-bodied, opulent personality. Aromas and flavors of blackberries and blueberries are accompanied by huge levels of glycerin, extraordinary purity and palate presence, sweet tannin, and unobtrusive acidity. Enjoy it over the next 8-10 years. Tel. 707-963-1774; Fax 707-963-8206

(named after their cat, not the artist, Bob Hitchcock emphasizes; a blend of 32% syrah, 31% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 12% cabernet franc) Saturated bright ruby. Cassis, blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate and black pepper on the nose. Sweet, fat and rich, with compellingly sweet flavors of dark berries, black cherry, dark chocolate and game, lifted by a floral component. Really lush in the mouth, with bright but harmonious acidity. A fascinating blend that works.
