Score 90/100 · Drink 1998-2004, Robert Parker, Dec 1998
The 1996 Pinot Noir Grand Detour Van der Kamp Vineyard offers a big, smoky, complex nose filled with aromas of black cherries, jus de viande, clove, and all-spice. It is a meaty, full-bodied, richly spicy yet supple-textured, expansive, delicious Pinot Noir. The wine's provocative aromatics and earthy, smoky style will serve it well over the next 5-6 years. The Pinot Noirs are getting better with each vintage. These unfined/unfiltered, Burgundian-styled offerings are given 60% new oak. Tel. (707) 833-0053; Fax (707) 833-1164
