Tasting notes
Readers should not overlook Martinelli's limited production, delicious 1999 Gewurztraminer Martinelli Vineyard, the finest Gewurztraminer made in California. Revealing this varietal's classic lychee nut and honeyed grapefruit aromas and flavors, it is a dry, full-bodied, exotic, ostentatious effort that requires consumption over the next 1-2 years in order to take advantage of its intensity and exuberance. Aromatic nose combines rose petal and citrus skin. Rich and concentrated, with intriguing lichee and charred oak character. Conveys a slightly sweet impression, but this fresh, chewy wine is technically dry.
About the producer

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
