Tasting notes
Bright red-ruby. Captivating, slightly candied perfume of blackberry, violet pastille, licorice, woodsmoke, bacon fat and orange peel; very northern Rhone-like. Then densely packed if initially a bit clenched, offering lovely inner-mouth aromatic character to its bright blackberry and violet flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. Quite compelling on the nose but will it expand in the mouth with some bottle age?

Dramatically different, with more richness and concentration, the 2010 Quivet Cellars Syrah Kenefick Ranch nevertheless still holds onto the purity, detail, and energy shown in the Las Madres. Coming from the Kenefick Ranch Vineyard (located near Araujo’s Eisele Vineyard) and also 100% Syrah, it has loads of ripe black fruits, smoked earth, mineral, and background meatiness that comes through with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, yet also beautifully textured, detailed, and pure, it will drink nicely for 8-10 years, if not longer.
