Tasting notes
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is a little restrained on the nose to begin, opening out to aromas of crushed black plums, black cherries and underbrush with touches of garrigue, lavender, tar and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, plush, rich and seductive in the mouth, there is a lovely perfumed/spicy character that emerges in the long finish.

There’s a scant 190 cases of the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva and it’s up with the crème de la crème of this fabulous vintage. With a deep purple color and Pauillac-like notes of lead pencil, scorched earth, black currants, cassis, and tobacco leaf, this borderline perfect wine is full-bodied, opulent, and concentrated, with building structured and depth. This is a profound, layered, multi-dimensional Cabernet Sauvignon that will be better with short-term cellaring and keep for two decades or more. While the 2014s from this estate are beautiful across the board, the 2015s are a clear step up. Pulling from their 45-acre estate in Spring Mountain as well as sourcing fruit from Oakville and Yountville, Frias is making some of the most compelling wines in the valley. This is a bandwagon you don’t want to miss.
