A truly glorious wine. Ruby, foxy rim. Floral, seductive rim. Sweet, rich, translucent. Hint of liquorice. Very sweet. (JR)

The wine was from Edmund Penning-Rowsell’s cellar. Tasted at a dinner in north London . Very, very lively. A very, very rich and plush nose. Deep, deep crimson out to the rim. Much richer than the 1961. Sweet, high acid. (JR)

Tasted 3 Times With Consistent Notes Leoville-Barton had a strong decade from the late forties through the fifties. The powerhouse 1959 is fully mature, but exhibits no signs of fading. It is large-scaled and muscular, with a huge, cedary, earthy, black fruit-scented nose, gobs of glycerin and alcohol, and a heady, spicy finish with some noticeable tannin. Will the 1982 be its contemporary counterpart?
