(13.9% alcohol): Moderately saturated medium red. Sexy, lightly medicinal aromas of cherry, redcurrant and milk chocolate, with a touch of peppery, spicy lift. (Unlike the foregoing wines, which are from totally destemmed fruit, this cuvée was vinified with a small percentage of whole clusters for the first time.) At once denser and more delicate than the Taillepieds, more reticent in the middle palate but with lovely mineral precision to its flavors of raspberry, black cherry, licorice and spices. Shows less of the vintage's obvious warmth than the Taillepieds, no doubt due at least in part to the lightly peppery stem influence. This wine should evolve slowly and gracefully.

Lovely floral notes – this has some of the flavour interest that is missing from their other Volnays. Very fine tannin with a crisp acid finish. The length isn’t huge though, and the fruit concentration isn’t a great prospect for long-term ageing. (RH)

(vinifed with 12% whole clusters; aged in one new 500-liter barrel plus a one-year-old standard barrique ): Healthy dark red. Slightly high-toned, vibrant scents of dark cherry, spices and black pepper. In a rather powerful, distinctly dark style, offering penetrating flavors of black cherry, licorice, pepper and spices. Youthfully tight, vertical wine with little easy sweetness. With its firm tannic backbone, this premier cru is slightly severe but the finish is quite long and perfumed, taking on scents of violet and licorice with air.
