Tasting notes
Proprietor Eric Sussman’s 2005 Chardonnay Savoy is absolutely brilliant. It seems to be showing better than it did from barrel last year, exhibiting wonderful cool-climate hints of nectarine, guava, white currants, and spring flowers. The wine is rich, medium to full-bodied, with zippy acidity, and a deft touch of oak for subtle seasoning. Previously recommended: 2004 Pinot Noir Alberigi (89+), 2004 Pinot Noir La Neblina (88), 2004 Pinot Noir Savoy (91), 2004 Pinot Noir Terra Neuma (90), 2004 Syrah Cherry Camp (93+), 2004 Syrah Timbervine (95), 2004 Zinfandel Von Weidlich (90). Hazy gold. Ripe and nutty scents of pear, white peach and truffle complemented by gentle baking spices and leesy notes. Very spicy on the palate, with mineral-accented pear and pit fruit flavors and a late note of iodine. This definitely leads with minerals. The energetic finish features a slowly unfolding array of citrus fruits. I like the subtlety here.
