Light garnet. Lovely sweetly spiced mature red fruit with an attractive note of decay. Dry and quite chewy on the palate but the texture is fine-grained. Extremely zesty and spiced. Perhaps just little bit lean on fruit in the middle but enough to balance. (JH)

Pecchenino's 2012 Barolo San Giuseppe is aromatic, lifted and finessed, yet it also has plenty of depth. Pine, mint, sweet dried cherry, tobacco and blood orange give the 2012 its perfumed, lifted personality. Deceptively medium in body, the 2012 offers notable intensity in a restrained, laid back style. The San Giuseppe is the most gracious of the three Pecchenino 2012 Barolos, which makes it an excellent choice for drinking over the medium-term. Silky, polished tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal.

Monforte d’Alba. Mid ruby with orange tinges. A leathery spicy nose. The palate is more focused. Quite elegant in weight, yet powerful and with fantastic tannic grip on the finish. (WS)
