Mid crimson. Big and a little raw on the nose. Austere fruit on the palate. Hard work. (JR)

The 2014 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses has a brisk, quite minty bouquet with dark berry fruit and crushed roses. It takes time to really coalesce in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, nicely balanced but missing some complexity on a slightly monochromatic finish that leaves you wanting more. Not bad, but I have tasted better vintages in the past.
