(just a single 350-liter barrel made, from a crop level of 22 hectoliters per hectare): Bright medium red. Tight aromas of cherry and spices. Intense, juicy and energetic, showing a distinctly tangy quality to its strong spice and dark fruit flavors. Very backward but not hard--in fact, this is rather suave for a Beaune-side Pommard.

The 2016 Pommard 1er Cru Les Pezerolles came in untouched by the frost, but that still only equates to around 350 liters or just one large barrel of wine. It has a pretty red cherry and redcurrant-scented bouquet that is feminine and unassuming yet (again) extremely well defined. The palate is structured, as you would expect from Pommard, the tannins fine and detailed with an edgy, focused finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is a riveting Pommard from Lafarge that has so much coiled up energy that it makes you feel revivified after imbibing.
In the middle of the vineyard – just 0.15 ha on dolomite calcaire. Just one 300-litre cask made. Pale purplish crimson. Sweet and fresh and smells much more delicate than a stereotypical Pommard. Very sweet and gorgeous with beautifully managed tannins. Most unusual and very vibrant. (JR)
