Tasting notes
(13.5% alcohol): Bright medium ruby. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of black raspberry, mulberry, crushed rock, mocha, earth and cola spices. Plush and broad but light on its feet, with the dark berry fruit complicated by spices and herbs. Less obviously sweet than most of these 2004s but with more complexity and excellent breadth and palate coverage. Still a bit ungiving on the back end, with the tongue-dusting tannins calling for a few years of additional cellaring.

From famed oenologist and consultant Denis Malbec, this 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A beautiful dark purple color is accompanied by a stunning perfume of blueberries and raspberries. The wine has a cooler climate feel and texture along with vibrant fruit as well as a hint of flowers, all of which suggest a certain French savoir-faire and an allegiance to the style of wine found in Bordeaux. This pretty 2004 is just beginning to drink well, and it should continue to age nicely for two decades. Tel. (707) 963-9606
