(20 percent whole clusters and one-third new oak) Limpid ruby-red. Ripe red berries, incense and candied flowers on the intensely perfumed, spice-accented nose. Silky in texture and alluringly sweet, offering intense raspberry, cherry, rose pastille and spicecake flavors that put on weight with air while maintaining vivacity. Shows impressive energy and spicy thrust on the impressively persistent finish, which features harmonious tannins and repeating florality.

The 2014 Pinot Noir Balcombe Block 1B comes from vines planted in 1990 in the southeast corner of the vineyard, on shallower and less vigorous soil than elsewhere. It includes 20% whole cluster fermentation and was matured in one-third new oak. It has a tightly wound bouquet with dark berry fruit, rose petal and violets, one of the more floral within Patricia Green's range. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, superbly-judged acidity, crisp and taut with a very focused, yet tightly wound finish. Give this 3-4 years in bottle and you will have a very serious and I must say, very well-priced Pinot Noir.
