The Barone Ricasoli 2022 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Castello di Brolio offers plump primary fruit and lightly applied oak nuances that add volume and depth. This is one of the flagship wines of the estate, and it shows consistent results over the years. In many ways, it is the estate's most representative bottle, made with 100% Sangiovese harvested from the plots immediately adjacent to the landmark Brolio Castle on a mix of soils that includes Macigno del Chianti (sandstone), galestro (schist) and alberese (limestone). It offers a velvety close, some light spice and tart cherry over a velvety finish. It matures in tonneaux for 22 months with 20% new oak. Production is 30,000 bottles.

Mid to deep ruby. Savoury oak, old leather and salty hints over perfumed cherry fruit. Supple, savoury cherry fruit with underlying tannins. Plenty of stuffing yet not sweet or overripe at all. Long, juicy acidity on the finish. (WS)
Gaiole. 100% Sangiovese. Mid to deep ruby with orange tinges. Hints of savoury pine, black pepper and oak over subdued fruit. Succulent, completely dry cherry fruit on the palate framed by chewy tannins that become more temperate on the long finish. Has ageing potential. (WS)
The 2022 Chianti Classico is a tasty, fruit-driven wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Succulent red cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, cedar and mint are nicely pushed forward. The 2022 is all charm.
