The 2014 Pinot Noir Mays Canyon looks like it will be one of the first 2014s in this range to open up, as it has both less fruit and overall structure than most of the other wines in the range. At this stage, the Mays Canyon is floral, delicate and gracious, with expressive red-toned notes that linger nicely.

Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir Mays Canyon is delightfully exuberant on the nose at this youthful stage, offering bright Bing cherry and crushed cranberry notes with hints of lavender, rose petals and cinnamon stick. The light-bodied palate is more restrained, with stewed tea and a delicate perfume lacing the red fruit, finishing with a pleasant chewy texture. 270 cases were made.
The 2014 Pinot Noir Mays Canyon comes across as quite tannic and intense, qualities that may be accentuated by its recent racking. Still, I very much admire the purity of the fruit, and, in particular, the wine's long, saline-driven finish. Today, though, the Mays Canyon does appear a bit more affected by the recent racking than some of the other Pinots in the range.
