Tasting notes
(made from fruit grown in the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard, in the Santa Maria Valley) Brilliant violet. Highly perfumed, spice-accented dark berries, cured meat, olive paste and candied violet on the nose. Is this Syrah or what? At once rich and energetic, offering juicy, concentrated blackberry, blueberry and floral pastille flavors plus a hint of smokiness. Turns spicier on the impressively long, clinging finish, which features slow-building tannins and an emphatic echo of smoky bacon.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 gargantua California Syrah has meat and game notes of salami and chargrill with a core of chocolate-covered cherries and licorice plus a touch of Sichuan pepper. The palate is medium-bodied and softly textured with rounded tannins. It possesses just enough freshness and good length.
