Score 92-94/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2016

(aging in 40% new oak, like most of these wines; there was a time--prior to 2001--when Duband aged his wines in almost 100% new oak): Healthy medium red. Captivating aromas of red cherry, rose petal, crushed stone and flinty, smoky minerality. Juicy but imploded, conveying an impression of density without any weight. Boasts superb energy and perfumed lift to its intense flavors of red cherry, red licorice and flowers. Finishes with fine-grained tannins that dust the front teeth and excellent length. This youthfully imploded wine will need time to expand in bottle but should be a beauty.
