Score 89/100 · Drink 2010-2021, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

Another solid wine from winemaker Yves Cuilleron is the 2006 Cote Rotie Terres Sombres. Made from three different parcels (all schist soils) and aged in 50% new barrels, it has a sweet and youthful bouquet of green olives, bacon fat, smoked beef and mature red and black fruits. It’s not a huge wine, yet it excels on its charm and has juicy, bright acidity on the finish. I would plan on drinking bottles over the coming 4-5 years.

Inky purple. Blackberry, cherry, dried flowers and graphite on the nose. Tightly focused raspberry, cassis and floral pastille flavors stain the palate, with dusty tannins providing support. Turns sweeter on the finish, which is fresh and impressively persistent.

Opaque purple. Seductive dark berry and kirsch aromas are brightened by fresh flowers and minerals. Lush blackberry and candied cherry flavors are pliant and completely edge-free. Where are the tannins? Broad, sweet and impressively persistent on the finish, which repeats the creamy dark berry flavors.
