Score 93/100 · Drink 2019-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jul 2019

The 1986 Vieilles Vignes Françaises is a wine I have never tasted before. Mature and resolved, the 1986 is a Champagne to drink now and over the next few years at most. The hazelnut, dried flower, orange peel, coffee, mint and dried apricot flavors are wonderfully nuanced. The 1986 surprises for its power and explosive, vinous richness. Although the 1986 is not likely to improve much from here, it is deeply satisfying today.
