The 2021 Barolo Rocche Dell'Annunziata is a medium red color and offers gorgeous, pure aromas of anise, fresh cherries, pressed flowers, wet stones, and graphite on the nose. A powerful vintage, but with the finesse of La Morra, it has real structure, with velvety, ripe tannins, fully dry, even acidity, and a long finish, with just a hint of sunny darker fruits and purple flowers. Since I last tasted this a year ago, it’s come into focus and offers lots of clarity. It will likely continue to improve over the coming 20 or more years.

The 2021 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is a wild, exotic wine endowed with freakishly sumptuous fruit, the result of a brutal frost that wiped out 50% of the crop. Intense red-toned fruit, pomegranate, blood orange and sweet floral notes build into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures. The 2021 is a stylistic outlier here, in all the best ways. The Rocche spent 27 months in cask.
