Tasting notes
The 2018 Destieux has an attractive bouquet of red plum, red currant and cranberry fruit commingling with sage and light clove aromas. The oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. I am still concerned about the new oak toward the finish that lends a chocolaty veneer. I am hoping this is subsumed with time, because otherwise this is a fine Destieux.

A classic Saint-Emilion with its rich, mineral-laced, medium to full-bodied style, the 2018 Château Destieux offers impressive darker currant and black cherry-like fruits, notes of damp earth, chocolate, and spring flowers, terrific purity of fruit, and outstanding length. Made in a more elegant, seamless style, it builds nicely with time in the glass and is a complex, nuanced, balanced 2018 that can be drunk today or cellared for 10-15 years.
The 2018 Destieux opens with a blast of inky dark fruit, spice and bittersweet chocolate. Unfortunately the tannins are just too much, as was the case en primeur. There is good depth, but the oak tannins are just too much.
